Apply now

Pendulum is a venture-backed, seed-stage startup that empowers companies and governments to detect, deter, and counteract the impacts of harmful online narratives with machine learning enabled tools. We are currently seeking a Senior Software Developer to help develop a data platform that empowers our customers to define and track narratives and social media discussions relevant to their business. As part of this team, you will work as tech leader and subject matter expert to lead development of scalable and robust backend micro-services.

Our Senior Backend Engineers help us bring our Pendulum Intelligence platform to reality, contributing to data processing, data storage, and API layers. We're looking for creative and self-motivated crafters of software who thrive in early-stage, collaborative startup environments.

We firmly believe that the best teams put diversity and inclusion first when hiring and operating. At Pendulum this is paramount. Our mission of fighting against the impacts of harmful narratives and the underlying analysis narratives, claims, and communities in our society demands diversity of thought at all levels within our team. As such, prioritizing diversity and inclusion are core to first principles and requirements for working at Pendulum.

What You'll Do

  • Build our enterprise grade APIs: Our platform encompasses a broad spectrum of use-cases across a variety of domains. We need you to help build the APIs, backend services and data stores to empower our customers.
  • Be part of the foundational team: As we build out our platform, you will have an opportunity to join the core development team that gets to lay down the foundations and further roadmap of the platform.

What You've Done

  • Deep industry experience: Prior experience, showing high-impact work solving tough real-world problems.
  • Large scale delivery: It's hard building software, but even harder to maintain it, evolve it, and keep it awesome. You've done this for large-scale enterprise software.
  • Enterprise Quality: You've built and deployed APIs that are publicly facing and are built with security and documentation as first-class citizens. Empathy towards the end-user is in your DNA.
  • High velocity engineering: You are used to and thrive in a high operational tempo.
  • Complex architectures: You've designed, implemented, and maintained platforms, engines, or frameworks that others have consumed. You have delivered APIs consumed by modern web applications, and you understand the complexities and nuances micro-services, databases and document stores.
  • Distributed compute & big data: You've worked with distributed compute, and have tackled the performance challenges of large scale data. You've used serverless AWS components as building blocks like API Gateway, Lambda, Cognito, and DynamoDB.
  • Breadth of tools: Expertise in Python, GoLang, Rust and/or Terraform; you probably know other languages as well.
  • Fostering the team: You love helping and mentoring others and showing leadership as an extraordinary hands-on developer and architect.
  • CS fundamentals: You have earned at least a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
